Most Common Bases Used Laboratories in Kenya during KCSE

Most Common Bases Used Laboratories in Kenya during KCSE

In Kenyan secondary schools, during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) practical chemistry sessions, students commonly work with several standard bases.

These base chemicals are also useful during analysis and educational practicals. For example, they are used in titration experiments, qualitative analysis, industrial chemical processes, pH meter adjustments, and in wastewater treatments.

Today, we will take ypu through and look at the top base chemicals used in almost every science laboratory Kenya should have. We do sell and supply these bases across the country, and you can make an order with us today and enjoy best deals from our website store.

1. Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

This is the most widely used chemical performing many procedures and tests. We stock the lab grade. Sodium hydroxide, sometimes called Caustic Soda, is the most common and most essential base chemicals that should not be missed in any science laboratory.

It is widely used in quantitative analysis in titration of acidic substances and qualitative analysis. Schools in Kenya use it during KCSE chemistry practical lessons to perform titration.

Sodium hydroxide also acts as one of the most important alkalis for producing high-quality soaps for household use. It is usually packed in 500g of quantity. 500g of the Sodium hydroxide is KES 950.

2. Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)

The Preferred Base in Biodiesel and Advanced Chemical Analysis. Also called Caustic potash is a strong alkali like sodium hydroxide used in chemistry laboratories mainly used to produce soaps, it is essential to produce biodiesel and is one of the primary chemicals used for sophisticated scientific analysis and testing.

Colleges use potassium hydroxide when doing research in labs, producing cosmetics and fertilizers for production analysis.

They are usually packed in 500g also. With KES 2,750 you will be able to buy the 500g of the base directly from our website.

3. Ammonium (NH3)

Ammonium is a very weak base commonly referred to as aqueous ammonia or ammonia solution. It is a very versatile weak base in the laboratory used to make buffer solutions for qualitative and quantitative analyses.

In school labs, it is often used to demonstrate differences between strong bases and weak bases and also useful in identifying some groups of ions during qualitative testing.

It also finds use in washing and cleaning.

4. Calcium Hydroxide (CaOH)

It is a commonly used school base called Slaked Lime. Calcium hydroxide is most popular with schools for demonstration of CO2 testing and for preparing the familiar ‘Limewater’. The reagent is applied in waste and water treatments and in the construction industry.

Due to its common use in schools to prepare reliable titration standards and other applications.

Calcium Hydroxide - Sciencelab limited chemicals

The least quantity of Calcium hydroxide that you can buy from us is 500g, which costs KES 1000. Kindly note that we do supply more of the base in higher quantities.

5. Magnesium Hydroxide (Mg(OH))

The base is usually used in KCSE in is widely applied in demonstrations. Magnesium hydroxide, an inorganic compound often appears as white precipitate when dissolved in water which dissolves slightly, so this chemical is one of the very best demonstration purposes when preparing titration standards for student practicals.

The chemical is also used to minimize losses to ensure better accuracy. We have quality Magnesium hydroxide which is usually packed in 500 g packs for only KES 2,600.

6. Barium Hydroxide (Ba(OH))

The base is used as an important analytical tool. Barium hydroxide, commonly called Baryta water in solutions is also frequently used for titration and analysis purposes in advanced research facilities and Universities.

It is especially used in some sophisticated precipitation and analytical operations like sulfates analysis, because it is a strong alkali but a weaker than sodium or potassium hydroxides.

We have the barium hydroxide octahydrate which comes in 500 g and costs KES 1,900.

7. Calcium Oxide

Calcium Oxide is also known as quicklime. It is an important base that is found in well-equipped school laboratories. When mixed with water, it reacts vigorously to produce Calcium Hydroxide (limewater) while releasing heat.

In KCSE, the base is used to prepare limewater for testing carbon dioxide gas, demonstrate exothermic reactions, where heat is released during a chemical reaction, and to study neutralization of reactions involving acids and bases.

Usually packaged in 500g and with a KES 1800 you can walk away with the chemical. It's currently on discount, take advantage of the limited offer to grab this product.

Conclusion

Bases are the most important reagents used in lab procedures especially during KCSE period. They come in handy when students are required to perform some experiments that need mixing the above bases with other reagents in order to reach an end point of the procedures.

We have discounts that are running for the whole month. Take advantage and ensure that you get to equip your lab with various lab reagents and enjoy smooth lab procedures.
